I help students all over the world to make rapid progress learning English as a Second Language (ESL). I also teach English speakers of all levels to develop ability and confidence in public speaking.

Principal Concepts
I have worked hard to develop a system that helps students learn faster, develop confidence and reach their goals. This system is based on three principal concepts.
Modern, Digital Courseware
The English language constantly evolves as the world we live in changes. Students need course material that changes too. In my classes, you will learn from the latest teaching materials with interactive elements. I develop a custom syllabus for each student from digital platforms that are constantly updated so students succeed in today’s world.
Adaptive Techniques
Having taught hundreds of students of all ages, it is exceedingly clear to me that everyone has their own style of learning, and it takes time and effort to determine what it is for each person. As a private tutor, I get to know my students personally and adapt both the course material and my teaching methods to make sure they progress at the fastest rate possible.
Online Platform
We are all busy, but we always make time for the things that are most important. With modern, digital courseware and amazing presentation tools like Zoom, Voov and Google Meet, you don’t have to miss out on the best education options. Have a remote class anywhere and at a day and time that are convenient for you while feeling almost like we are in the same room.
Class Details
Format
All classes with Bear are one-to-one (one-on-one or 1-v-1). My teaching methods center around giving attention to the individual needs of each student. While group learning has its benefits, such classes cannot be fully customized to suit the needs of each individual student. Classes are presented with either Zoom, Voov or Google Meet.
Courseware
The material for classes is hand-picked from world-leading e-learning provider, Compass Publishing. The New Frontiers courseware is specifically designed for online teaching with interactive, engaging elements and is complemented by a student e-book. Courses are constantly updated with current vocabulary, modern-day subjects and fun lessons so that students enjoy learning to speak English in today’s world. Physical student books can be purchased but are not required.
Length
Classes are 25 minutes in length and the course material is adapted to fit this time frame. Analyzing responses from parents along with determining the attention span of learners helped to determine this as the optimal class length. If desired and class slots are available, students may book two classes in tandem, or as many classes in a week as they would like.
Assessment & Placement
I use a generic leveling system recognized worldwide that has equivalencies to the standards and standardized tests you are familiar with: CEFR, CLB, CASAS, TOEIC, TOEFL and IELTS. Students are placed into a course path determined by information that is provided along with their assessed performance. Students are never ‘locked in’ to a course or level. Courses can be changed, adapted or skipped at any time. Rapid advancement is the goal!
Content
Multimedia content in each course includes lessons to develop grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Fun activities include mini-projects, games, conversation starters, listening activities, videos and more! During each class, students are coached to use complete sentences, new vocabulary, proper grammar and are assisted to reduce strong accents. Unit check-ups and vocabulary reviews are provided to establish each student’s progress.
Pricing, Payment & Terms
All 25-minute classes are $20 USD and sold in packages of 10 classes or more ($200 USD). Payment is made by WeChat Pay, PayPal, credit/debit card or bank transfer (you do not pay any fees). To receive credit for cancelling a scheduled class, notice must be sent at least 24 hours in advance. One free 15-minute trial class is offered to each prospective student.
Courseware
Once a student has been accurately assessed, they will be assigned to the level that will help them attain success with the fastest track for growth and improvement using the New Frontiers courseware from Compass Publishing. At any time the course level can be adjusted to better suit the student. Below you will find links for the literature that accompanies each course level.
Student E-book (FREE/included with course): Digital online book that contains all information for each course, including images, audio and videos. It is hosted online, but not downloadable, so make a bookmark so the student can access it to preview before class and review after class, as time permits.
Student Physical book with CD (price varies): This is not required for the course, but may be purchased at the cost of the student/parent. Links below are to an external site where you can arrange payment and delivery.

Level Equivalency Scale
To accommodate English language learners worldwide, I use a generic leveling system that is recognized internationally. This scale indicates approximate equivalency to other common standards and is subject to change.

WHO IS BEAR?
About Me
I was born and raised in the United States and lived there for most of my life. My father was a public speaker and instilled in me a great work ethic. He worked diligently with me so that I could read, write and speak at a higher level than any of my classmates in school, from which I was seventh in the graduating class. I have a diploma in Graphic Communications, an internationally recognized TESOL certification and a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Education and a minor in Online Education.
Professionally, I have a diverse background that benefits me greatly as a teacher. My skills and abilities include: graphic designer, presenter, photographer, public speaker, public speaking instructor, math tutor, accent reduction coach, and of course, English teacher. I have been teaching students of all ages for over 20 years and have taught my own four children from home along with my wife of 22 years. I have over seven years experience teaching English online, which is now the main way I engage with students.
